December 3

About the International Day

The International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) was established by the United Nations in 1992 to promote understanding of disability issues and to mobilize support for the dignity, rights, and well-being of persons with disabilities.

Each year, December 3 invites people around the world to celebrate inclusion, recognize contributions, and strengthen communities where everyone belongs.

Building Social Progress Through Belonging

Across Canada, conversations about inclusion and social progress are taking centre stage — from Parliament to communities coast to coast. L’Arche’s message is simple and essential: when we live and lead with one another, society advances.

Join us on sharing the message on Social Media on December 3rd. More details to come in the week of November 17th, 2025.

This year’s theme

“Fostering disability inclusive societies for advancing social progress”

This means building a world where everyone belongs.

It’s about creating communities where people with and without disabilities live, work, and grow together — where every person’s gifts help society move forward.

Inclusion isn’t just something nice to do — it’s how we make real progress.
