Arnprior, Daybreak, Hamilton, London, Ottawa, Stratford, Sudbury and Toronto
The L’Arche communities in Canada provide a range of individualized supports that help each person live a meaningful life, develop their abilities, contribute their gifts, and achieve their goals.
The communities vary in size, history and local flavour, yet they have a common spirit of welcome, joy and celebration. Members all share in decision-making, chores, activities and the life of the community as they desire and are able.
The eight communities in Ontario are distinct in size and activity, and all are wonderful places to visit, work, volunteer or live. You may enjoy the big-city life of L’Arche in downtown Toronto, prefer the quieter rhythm of small-town Arnprior, or wish to venture north to Sudbury where the great outdoors is never far away. Our communities are spread out across the province from our nation’s capital to Richmond Hill (the first community established in Canada), to Stratford, Hamilton and London, in western Ontario, where we are well integrated into the life and vibe of these cities.
The Ontario communities all operate homes but also have an outward-facing vision of serving the community through art programs, social outings, baking, drum-circles, open-mikes, cafes, interpretive dance, and even theatre production. We offer unique opportunities in each community like our Trying It on For Size (TIFS) program in Toronto where young adults can learn independent living skills, our Summer Camp initiative in London for respite fun in the sun, and our Peace Prayer evening at Daybreak for those inclined to join others in faith and prayer for our world. Our communities are places of meaningful connection — come check us out!
