Diploma in Assisted Living: Human Care and Community
L'Arche Canada-Communications
In 2005, L'Arche Canada entered into a partnership with St. Francis Xavier University to develop a distance education program called the Diploma in Assisted Living: Human Care and Community. This program is designed as a professional/personal development opportunity for individuals who have some training and/or experience working or living with people who have developmental disabilities.

As such, it aims to build on the knowledge and skills participants already possess regarding community living and human care. This values-based program stresses community building, fostering spirituality and celebrating individual giftedness.
Download the brochure Who Should Enroll? This program is for people with experience working and/or living with individuals who have a developmental disability. The program is also of interest to those caring for a family member or friend.

Course Instructors Access to course instructors is an important feature of the program. Instructors have designated weekly office hours when they are available to students by toll free calling and email. Instructors facilitate the online discussion forum and give written feedback on assignments.

Schedule Classes start September 14th. See below to register online. Each 12-week course is offered on a set schedule in either the fall (September – December) or winter term (January – April). The program takes 2.5 years to complete.
